When it comes to designers, few are as esteemed as Eric Choong, an Ipoh native who took the Malaysian fashion scene by storm when he returned as a graduate of the Hong Kong Fashion Design Institute to establish his eponymous label. It didn’t take long for him to become one of the most sought-after bridal wear designers who has won a numerous awards and collaborated with brands such as Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Chopard, and Bvlgari, among others.
While his designs may have been remarkable in their luxury, Choong remains humble; and as such he isn’t content to rest on his laurels but has over the years travelled around the globe to broaden his horizon and search for inspiration. Ironically, it is the centuries-old art of Batik in Southeast Asia that has captivated the designer, who has now resolved to promote the ancient art to the world by weaving its most charming elements into contemporary fashion. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Choong’s illustrious career, GMBB is showcasing some of his best past works and unveiling his next big project.
Whether or not you’re enthusiastic about fashion, this is not an event to be missed.
