Padai is a Tamil word which has two meanings – “to create”, and “a crowd of people”. Which is why it was chosen as the name for an art movement initiated by a group of young film practitioners in the effort to bring awareness focusing on Malaysian Indian youth. The vision is to promote a critical thinking society through the arts and to bring fine art to the working-class people and the younger generation. Padai Art Movement organised a series of weekly screenings covering a wide range of international classic films with talks and sharing sessions with industry experts as panelists.
GMBB’s work in supporting the initiative of “Padai Film Community” underlines our passion and commitment to our brand values – passion, enterprise, community – in our aspirations to become an enterprising hub for Malaysian creatives, artists and artisans to do more together for Malaysian arts and culture.
